A gift to the occupation … Emergency situations in Abu Dhabi and Riyadh to hinder the Palestinian reconciliation
As the Palestinian Authority announced entering into an agreement to hold imminent Palestinian legislative elections, the UAE and Saudi Arabia declared a state of political emergency to discuss ways to obstruct this agreement, which disturbs the “sovereignty” of Israel and spoils it joy of normalization.
The UAE, which has turned from an Arab country into a delegate of the Israeli occupation, has taken upon itself to obstruct this long-awaited Palestinian-Palestinian agreement between Hamas and Fatah, after years of estrangement, during which the Palestinian Authority realized that it needs to be strong to have a respected international status.
Before Israel comments on this, the Palestinian authorities were met with the anger of Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Egypt, who decided to stop the reconciliation from taking place, in order to avoid disturbing Israel.
The UAE fears that holding elections and reconciliation may directly affect its plans to hand over the leadership of power to its boy, Mohamed Dahlan, which would please the occupation greatly.
Political sources revealed that both Saudi Arabia and the UAE support pressure exerted by Egypt towards thwarting the outputs of the Istanbul understandings, which resulted in the Palestinian Authority’s reluctance to implement what was agreed on during these meetings, including the issuance of a presidential decree to hold elections.
The Palestinian President “Mahmoud Abbas” was supposed to issue decree for the general Palestinian elections within 6 months. However, the pressure exerted by the three Arab countries, as well as the pressure of the Israeli occupation in the West Bank, contributed to obstructing the agreement.
The sources added that a delegation from Fatah visited Cairo last week (after the Istanbul understandings), and received a message saying that “the Egyptians are not satisfied with the way the agreement was announced in Turkey,” which the movement responded to saying that “the agreement took place in the Palestinian consulate in Istanbul without sponsorship or Turkish mediation, ”and added that “the Palestinians came to terms via bilateral meetings and took steps in the reconciliation file, in addition to the fact that the current Palestinian strategy is based on the policy of bilateral meetings. ”
The Egyptians, who oppose the implementation of the agreement and the elections, claimed that the Palestinian reconciliation without Cairo’s sponsorship indicates the lack of appreciation to the latter’s effort after many attempts of reconciliation between Fatah and Hamas over 14 years. They also claimed that the time is not suitable for elections, given the lack of international and American support for it.
Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, expressed his “dissatisfaction” with the Turkey meeting, as “some parties saw it as a message to certain Arab parties,” as he put it.
The Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Saeb Erekat, responded to by asking Aboul Gheit to resign from his post after supporting the recent Arab normalization agreements with Israel and his promotion of the American peace plan in the Middle East, known in the media as the “deal of the century,” which legitimizes the annexation of the occupying state to more lands in the West Bank.
Hamas informed the President of the Palestinian Authority that it is questioning the delay in implementing the understandings, including allowing popular resistance in the West Bank and stopping the pursuit of Hamas members, as well as his delay in lifting sanctions on the Gaza Strip, stop the discrimination between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and allowing the renewal of passports for thousands of those banned from traveling.
