Resist: A Sudanese Popular Campaign to Reject Normalization with the Israeli Occupation

Media agencies monitored broad movements of the General Secretariat for the Popular Forces to Resist Normalization (RESIST), which is based on rejecting agreement signed by the Sudanese Transitional Government headed by Abdel Fattah Burhan with the occupying Zionist entity.

RESIST is one of the most prominent movements against normalization. It was founded last November, and it consists of dozens of parties and organizations, such as the People’s Congress Party, the Reform Now Movement, the Just Peace Forum, the National Path Party, the Independent Youth Assembly, the Sudan Scholars Association, the Sudanese Union of Scholars, Imams and Preachers, the Muslim Brotherhood, and the Media Reporters League Against Normalization.

The General Secretariat of Resist announced the launch of its campaign to reject the normalization agreement signed by the Sudanese government, at the behest of the UAE with the Israeli occupation state, under the auspices of the White House during the rule of the outgoing President Donald Trump. Al-Burhan government was promised to lift the name of Sudan from the countries sponsoring terrorism, after it was placed on it since the beginning of the nineties, following events against American embassies in some African countries.

The campaign aimed at mobilizing Sufi leaderships against the normalization agreement with the Israeli occupation.

According to the Sudan Tribune website, on Tuesday, March 23, 2020, the General Secretariat of “Resist” held a meeting with Sheikh Abdel Wahhab Al-Kabbashi, Sheikh of the Qadiriya Al-Kabashiya Sufi order to discuss ways of cooperation between all intellectual, religious and political currents in Sudan to reject normalization and sever relations with the Israeli occupation state, and to form a front of popular rejection of the treason of the government of Sudan, since this agreement was concluded despite the rejection of Sudanese public opinion, and it was neither accepted nor approved by an elected council.

The General Secretariat of the Resist stated that the Sheikh of the Qadiriya Kabbashy Sufi order had declared his complete rejection of all forms of normalization with the Zionist enemy, and he informed them that he had directly told the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, during a meeting with the sheikhs of the Sufi order in Sudan, that “we completely reject all forms of normalization with the Zionist occupation, and all sheikhs of the Sufi orders in the State of Sudan completely reject this, because it does not represent the Sudanese nation that does not and will never accept the treason against the Palestinian cause at all costs”.

The media official of RESIST, Sadiq Al-Hajj, said that the Sheikh of the Qadiriya Kabbashy order committed himself to support all efforts made by the popular forces to reject normalization, which aim to sever all relations with the Zionist occupation, and reject the normalization agreement signed by the Sudanese government at the end of 2020.

Al-Hajj said, “Similar meetings will be initiated by RESIST with all currents and forces, sheikhs of the Sufi orders, leaders of the Native Administration, preachers and tribal leaders, in order to raise a memorandum signed with signatures of personalities and entities rejecting the normalization agreement with the occupying entity, and it will be handed over to the transitional government in order to take the necessary steps to cancel that agreement.”

He also confirmed that the General Secretariat of RESIST had formed a delegation headed by Secretary-General Badreldin Hussein, which met with the Sudanese Union of Scholars, Imams, Preachers and the Sudan Scholars Association.

The steps of normalization between Khartoum and Tel Aviv began since the meeting of the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in Uganda in February 2020.
